Dr. Elizabeth Lowdermilk, an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, is the Associate Director of Services for the Department of Behavioral Health at the Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC). Trained as an adult psychiatrist at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, her primary clinical work is in Integrated Care, where she serves as the Lead Integrated Care Psychiatrist. As the first integrated care psychiatrist at DHMC and the University of Colorado, Dr. Lowdermilk worked to develop, implement and expand the Denver Health Integrated Behavioral Health Model. Dr. Lowdermilk strives to improve the usual care of mental illness in primary care, to improve systems of care, and to increase the integrated care workforce. Towards these aims, Dr. Lowdermilk makes education a key focus, teaching multiple learner types (psychiatry residents, psychiatry fellows, internal and family medicine residents, internal and family medicine attendings, LIC medical students, PA fellows and psychology residents) in clinical and classroom settings. Dr. Lowdermilk is active in advocacy work, participating in several governor appointed mental health task forces and committees, and is presently the immediate past chair of the Legislative Committee for the Colorado Psychiatric Society.
