Greg Smith is the Executive Director of the Kelsey Smith Foundation® and a Special Deputy Sheriff with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. In June of 2007 his daughter, Kelsey, was abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered. The case made national and international news. After Kelsey was killed, Greg entered the political arena, serving first as a state representative and then a state senator in Kansas. While in that role he championed legislation that was victim centered and held offenders accountable for their actions. Greg’s unique perspective of being both a law enforcement officer and the parent of a murdered child allows him to present compelling information to train professionals who work with victims of violent crime on how to respond to these critical incidents more effectively.
