McLennan County Sheriff's Office / Homeland Security Investigations
This presentation is designed to give investigators a better understanding of the psychological effects of human trafficking on victims. The goal is to see that more victim-centered, offender-focused investigations occur. This will help ensure that victims' needs are met, and investigations and prosecutions of offenders are able to be conducted even without victim cooperation. The topics that will be discussed include stages of victimization; causes of victimization; trauma in the brain; learned helplessness; and how to approach these investigations with the best interest of the victim's overall well-being being considered. The presenter will discuss how shifting the investigations from the victim to the offender will ensure the victim is not even necessary for successful investigation and prosecution. Lastly, the presenter will discuss how to conduct these operations using minimal funding and manpower.
