The family advocate's first interactions with a non-offending caregiver (NOC) are vital when it comes to successful engagement with the victim's family. It is critical that the advocate ensures that the NOC both understands and feels a part of the investigative process at the advocacy center. This workshop will discuss engagement with the NOC through the initial greeting process, the discussion of barriers to engagement, and how to overcome those barriers. The presenter will discuss a variety of caregivers and their personalities that advocates may encounter at the CAC by discussing case examples and how to work with, and engage clients to ensure the best support and outcome for the families being served.
