This case study will detail the successful investigation and prosecution of a CSAM/Invasion of Privacy case. The presenters will provide information on the investigation, digital forensic examination, evidence presentation, virtual jury selection, in-person jury issues, and victim testimony that occurred during the COVID epidemic. This case involved a middle-aged male living with his parents, who was arrested for distributing and possessing CSAM. Loosely hidden cameras were found in his room at the time of search warrant execution. Forensic analysis revealed those cameras had previously been hidden throughout the home to tape a young woman living there during private moments. The defense, in this case, provided several alternative theories including blaming other residents of the home and attacking the validity of nude photos of children being considered CSAM.
Learning Objectives:
Employ techniques to display digital forensic evidence with limited resources.
Display methods to use digital forensic evidence to counteract the defense.
Develop techniques to present the prosecution's case when unprecedented obstacles are present.
