This presentation will provide an overview of how TikTok protects minors on its platform. The audience will be introduced to the teams at TikTok that work every day to keep minors safe, from safety by design to moderation and our community guidelines. We will show how TikTok continues to invest in its people and systems to keep minors safe while still respecting user privacy. TikTok works with families and youth safety advocates on a holistic approach to keeping children safe through partnerships and in collaboration with law enforcement, the National PTA, the Family Online Safety Institute, ConnectSafely, NCMEC, and NGOs.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss best practices in proactive detection and reporting: We will walk the audience through TikTok's CSEA detection and reporting strategy, which involves both routine and experimental tactics for proactively detecting, disrupting and reporting CSAM and sexual exploitation of minors.
Illustrate how we respond to emerging trends and threats to user safety on platforms: We will demonstrate how various teams must collaborate to take effective and swift action once we are made aware of an emerging trend that poses risk to our minor users on the platform.
Explore the topic of 'safety by design': We will discuss the role of external outreach and user education in creating developmentally optimal default settings and empowering users to make informed decisions about their account privacy
