Asphyxiation can be used by child sexual perpetrators to achieve numerous objectives including gaining physical access or achieving compliance, avoiding accountability, and fulfilling the offender's sexual gratification. The audience will learn the different ways asphyxiation plays a role in sexually motivated crimes including human trafficking, child sexual abuse, teen violence, and homicide. Attendees will learn how to capture crucial evidence to reveal the offender's motivations, and document the impact on the victim. This workshop will increase attendees' ability to identify this often overlooked intersection and suggest opportunities to improve practice. As a result, practitioners can better protect against the future threat of these serial sexual predators who escalate over time.
