Children’s advocacy centers strive to ensure children are connected to opportunities to heal after a traumatic event occurs. However, how do we know which children need therapy? How can we engage with families to ensure immediate needs are met and informed recommendations are made? Family advocates offer a unique set of skills that can be used to engage families, assess for immediate needs, and connect families to the most appropriate resources to aid in this healing process. In this two-part workshop, the “Screening Team” from the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center will share the purpose of screenings and provide attendees with tangible resources/processes that family advocates can utilize at their own centers.
Learning Objectives:
Identify why family advocates are uniquely positioned to administer screenings for trauma symptoms.
Recognize what information needs to be gathered to create the best course of treatment for clients.
Attain a structured understanding of how to implement family advocate screenings to benefit their own advocacy center.
Distinguish which are the most appropriate community services according to the information gathered during the screening process.
