This presentation will focus on information regarding how children tell about their life events including abusive and traumatic experiences in a child forensic interview setting. The presenters will discuss the process of manipulation that children, families, and communities experience prior to, during, and after their abuse. Barriers and facilitators to the disclosure will be outlined and explored. Information regarding the disclosure process and how this impacts a child's ability to talk about abusive events will also be examined. Further, this presentation will address recantation and how multidisciplinary teams might best respond when this happens. Finally, participants will have an opportunity to see examples from forensic interviews demonstrating how the disclosure process unfolds.
