Victims who are rescued from the throes of online sex trafficking often have short-term evaluations regarding the impact which typically entail injuries from battering, sexually transmitted diseases and associated complications, drug and alcohol misuse, and their difficult recovery and psychological impacts. This workshop will review the impact of child adversities that made the victim/survivor at risk for sex trafficking at the outset, but most importantly the severe long-term medical problems which are often ignored. Attendees will learn of the lifelong medical problems seen in sex trafficking survivors. The presenter will explain why a thorough medical assessment is indicated, particularly if restitution secondary to abusive images and/or online marketing has been present in a case.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss at least three medical diagnoses often found in sex trafficking victims in addition to behavioral health concerns.
Upon completion, participants will be able to review the causes of multiple medical problems in sex trafficking survivors.
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe increased pre-existing adverse childhood experiences which contribute to the increased incidence of serious and chronic medical diagnoses.
