The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, having served the country since 1789. The USMS uses this influence and reach gained through its accomplished history and broad authority to collaborate with other federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies, as well as with concerned citizens and members of the judiciary, to form a united front against crime. The USMS Sex Offender Investigations Branch (SOIB) and Missing Child Unit (MCU) are dedicated to protecting the public through the coordinated enforcement of sex offender registration laws and assisting law enforcement agencies in locating critically missing children. In 2021, the USMS contributed to the arrest of 2,808 non-compliant sex offenders and the recovery of 950 missing and endangered children.
