This conference will provide an update on topics relevant to evidence of safety in office-based anesthesia. The program is intended to highlight current evidence and practices that promote and sustain the culture of safety in the provision of anesthesia in the oral and maxillofacial surgery office.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

Discuss the current evidence in safe and efficient administration of ambulatory anesthesia.
Review AAOMS’s commitment to patient safety through a variety of initiatives.
Describe effective strategies of inculcating parameters of safety from other industries and agencies.
Define appropriate patient selection for safe delivery of anesthesia in the OMS team model.
Examine common patterns in the nature of human errors.
List concepts of emergency preparedness and crisis management.
Cite elements of long-term effects of anesthesia in a broad spectrum of patient populations.
Identify the potential for quality improvement initiatives in the OMS office.
Underline equipment safety, medication errors and other aspects of risk management methodology to enhance the quality of patient care.
