Dr. Ryder's experience in nursing includes Clinical Director of a Special Care Unit and Cardiovascular/Thoracic Unit, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Nutrition Support, and Director of Nursing in Home Infusion. Dr. Ryder received a diploma from the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees from UCSF. She was elected a distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice in 2021.
Dr. Ryder is currently a well recognized independent collaborative researcher in medical biofilm related infections and vascular access. She is a frequent speaker at national, and international conferences and has authored numerous publications.
Dr. Ryder has served as President of AVA, chair of APIC’s Scientific Research Council, and President of the AVA Foundation for Patient Safety. Dr. Ryder was honored as the recipient of the Suzanne Herbst Award in 2017 . She is currently the President of VAPSA (Vascular Access Patient Safety Alliance).
