J Todd Purves MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Surgery (Urology) at Duke University. He has an active clinical practice in pediatric urology with a special interest in reconstructive surgery, neuro-urology and stone disease. In addition, he is the Prinicipal Investigator of the Duke University Urinary Dysfunction Laboratory which focuses on the role of the innate immune system in benign urologic pathology. A pioneer in the discovery of inflammasome biology in the lower urinary tract, his research is investigating the mechanisms by which bladder outlet obstruction and diabetes lead to urinary dysfunction.
