Dr. Katherine (Kelly) Fero was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. She studied Biology at Stanford University and performed
honors thesis research in Molecular and Cellular Biology. At Stanford she was a member of the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Rowing Team. She
attended UC San Diego School of Medicine where she was awarded an NIH training grant that funded a dedicated research year and Master's
degree program. Her studies were focused on biostatistics and her area of research interest at UCSD was practice variability and cost-
effectiveness of oncologic surgical interventions. Her academic interests are at the intersection of cost and quality, particularly
among very elderly patients, an understudied group in urology, overall. She has spent the past year investigating costs associated
with the management of upper tract urothelial carcinoma under the guidance of Dr Karim Chamie, and with the support of an AUA Urology
Care Foundation Research Grant. Kelly enjoys spending her time away from urology with her one year old daughter, Lola, surfing, and
running. She looks forward to a career in academic urology.
