Dr. Katz graduated the Faculty of medicine and performed his residency in urology in the Hebrew University, Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem. Dr. Katz received his diploma as a urologist is 2000 and continued his specialization training in laparoscopic and robotic surgery of prostate cancer, kidney and adrenal gland tumors as well as reconstructive laparoscopic surgery of the urinary system, in Henri Mondor Hospital in Creteil, France, under the supervision of Prof. Claude Abbou. In 2002 he returned to Israel and Hadassah Ein Karem and served as an attending surgeon as well as a lecturer in the Hadassah and Hebrew university school of medicine. In 2007 he was appointed as the head of the urology services in Hadassah Mt. Scopus Hospital and a senior lecturer in the medical school. In 2014 Dr. Katz became the head of the department of Urology in Ziv medical center in Safed, and a senior lecturer in the Azrieli faculty of medicine of Bar Ilan University in Safed.
Dr. Katz authored and Co-authored more than 50 clinical and research publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of urology. He is an invited reviewer of the European Urology Journal and Current Urological Reports Journal and a member of several national and international societies in the fields of Urology, Minimally invasive surgery, Oncology and sexual medicine.
His research fields include laboratory models for advanced laparoscopic procedures and the influence of various endoscopic energy sources on the surrounding tissue. The main subjects of research in the Department include physiology of the smooth muscle, hypogonadism, laparoscopic training and models of minimally invasive surgery, and minimally invasive devices for the management of benign hypertrophy of the prostate and the interaction between the microbiome of the body and malignant tumors of the urinary tract.
