Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University
I'm Atsunari Kawashima, M.D., Ph.D. Assistant Professor, Department of Urology, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University.
I graduated Medical School of Osaka University in 2002 and have worked as a Urologist.
After finishing my residency in 2007, I entered the Ph.D. course at the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine.
I focused on the research to find predictive markers for invasive bladder cancer during my Ph.D. student and published several articles about urological oncology (Clin Can Res. 2011, Eur J Can 2011, etc.)
After I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at David Berman's lab at Queens University, Canada from 2012 to 2014 to identify clinically significant prostate cancer patients (Prostate. 2019, J Natl Cancer Inst. 2020), I moved back to the Department of Clinical Research in Tumor Immunology and Urology, Osaka University in 2014 as an assistant professor.
Now, I'm working as a Urological surgeon and also doing my original research focusing on cancer immunology to evaluate immunological conditions within the tumor microenvironment (Can Immunol Immunothe. 2018, Clin Genitourin Cancer. 2019, Sci Rep 2020) especially in urothelial carcinoma (Sci Rep 2021, Can Immunol Immunothe 2022) and to find some specific molecules as candidates for novel cancer immunotherapy with the other collaborators, including some drug companies (PNAS 2022, Sci Rep 2022).
