Named as one of the “Leading Physicians of the World”*, Dr. Stone is a Professor of Urology and Radiation Oncology at the Icahn School of
Medicine at Mount Sinai, N.Y.C. Dr. Stone earned his medical degree and completed his urology training at the University of Maryland, a fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center and in 1986 joined Mount Sinai. He is a renowned prostate cancer specialist, academician, innovator and entrepreneur. Dr. Stone co-founded 3DBiopsy in 2012. Throughout his long career, Dr. Stone has recognized the need to develop new and better ways to treat urological disease, specifically prostate cancer. He is also unusual in the medical world in that he combines clinical and academic excellence with strong innovative and entrepreneurial talent. He created the real-time 3D Brachytherapy (implantable radioactive seed) System. This turnkey business, PROSEED was sold to CR Bard in 1998. Dr. Stone served as VP and Medical Director at Bard, and under his direction, opened over 200 centers that were successfully performing the PROSEED procedure in the U.S. and Europe. In 2004, he retired from Bard, and returned to Mt. Sinai Hospital in N.Y., and continued to pursue his academic and business interests. Such interests included a nine year supervisory and training role in Japan, where he taught urologists and radiation oncologists his procedure at over 100 hospitals. His ongoing concern over the widespread problem of overtreatment of prostate cancer led to a decision to significantly improve how it is diagnosed and treated. Through 3DBiopsy, he developed biopsy and pathology devices. Dr. Stone has continued his dedication to physician education by introducing Viomerse (www.viomerse.com) which makes advanced hands-on and remote learning technology utilizing augmented reality.
