SUMMARY OF MY RESEARCH WORKS
In April 2000, I started my basic research on kidney stone formation using experimental animals. As a graduate student, I developed the first experimental kidney stone model mice, and demonstrated a crucial role of osteopontin (OPN) for the stone formation using OPN-deficient mice. Furthermore, I determined suppressive roles of anti-inflammatory macrophages for kidney stone formation by crystal phagocytosis and processing. My current interests focus on the risk diagnosis and molecular-targeted therapy for kidney stones based on the mechanisms of stone formation.
In my current practice as a urologist subspecializing in low invasive surgery. I perform robot-assisted surgery, ESWL, URS and PNL. Especially, I have been investigating the training methods for improving the success rates of ESWL, and in charge of the JUA educational lectures to teach the members right ESWL techniques. And, recently, we have been developing VR simulation for robot-assisted surgery. While continuing my basic research, I also pursue my interest in education to improve effects of the low-invasive surgery.
