Arnav Srivastava, MD, MPH - Urology Resident, PGY4. Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital / Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey
My research interest to dates have primarily involved outcomes and management in urologic oncology. Consequently, I currently applying for a fellowship in urologic oncology - specifically interested in health services research.
In conducting clinical research, I have started to develop a burgeoning interest in translational research. Specifically, I hope to link patient-specific tumor biology to targeted therapies in urologic cancers. My goal is to become an effective surgeon scientist who not only offers patients excellent care, but also abstracts knowledge from patient care to make meaningful strides in urology as a field.
My first exposure to urology occurred in medical school at the James Buchanan Brady Urologic Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. During my time at Johns Hopkins, I earned my MPH, learning biostatics and statistical coding using STATA software. Consequently, I learned how to combine my statistical skills with my clinical interests in urology and start a pathway in clinical research. I became involved in several projects, both utilizing large-scale administrative databases and constructing my own institutional databases. My work spanned a variety of topics including active surveillance in small renal masses, artificial urinary sphincter outcomes, pathologic up-staging in kidney cancer, and opioid use after radical prostatectomy.
Since starting my residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital / Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, I have continued my interest in clinical research, primarily focusing on urologic oncology. My growing skills and interest in clinical research intersect well with the strengths of my clinical training center. Going forward I hope to utilize this confluence and make key contributions to urology and develop important skills in research.
