Laura Bukavina, MD is an expert in patient centered outcomes in urologic oncology and translational research in bladder cancer leading complex research advances in urologic 7oncology. Currently a Urologic Oncology Fellow at Fox Chase Cancer Center, she will join as urologic oncology faculty at University Hospitals Urology Institute, having completed her residency at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine/University Hospitals and her MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Bukavina’s work in bladder cancer examines how organizational factors, clinical characteristics, tumor microenvironment and social determinants of health impact surgical complications and oncologic survival. As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team with an epidemiologist, biostatisticians, public health and urologic oncologists, she focuses on investigating risk factors linked to increased peri-operative complications, as well as oncologic survival. She has been recognized for numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers evaluating interplay between genetics, environment, and socioeconomic factors as clinical predictors of postoperative recovery and survival in bladder cancer
