Alexandre Miranda, MD, Ph.D., FECSM, graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2001. He did his residency in General Surgery at Santa Casa de São Paulo (2002 - 2004) and his second medical residency in urology at the Ipanema Federal Hospital (2004-2007). Dr. Miranda received his Master's degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro-UERJ in 2009, studying the effects of late hormonal replacement therapy on the penile corpora cavernosa. He created the andrology section at the Urology Service of the Ipanema Federal Hospital at the end of 2007. He introduced new techniques in reconstructive surgery for penile curvatures, such as Peyronie's disease.
In July 2012, he was the only Brazilian to be awarded a scholarship in Sexual Medicine at St Catherine's College, Oxford (England), by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) in association with the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM).
In March 2014, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), creating a new surgical technique for Peyronie's disease (iGrafter).
Dr. Miranda was also the creator of the first 3D printed training model for plaque incision and grafting in Peyronie's disease (2021). Also, he created a new surgical technique to simultaneously recover penile length and girth during penile prosthesis insertion without graft - Auxetic (2022).
He currently coordinates the Andrology Sector of the Urology Service at the Ipanema Federal Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. He also assumed as the new coordinator of the sexual medicine/infertility department of the Brazilian Society of Urology - Rio de Janeiro (SBU-RJ) (2022-2023)
He is an active member of the American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, International Society for Sexual Medicine, and European Society for Sexual Medicine.
