Dr. Canalini received his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) School of Medicine in Brazil, in 1979. He completed the residency in urology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), with Prof. Sérgio Aguinaga. He completed his MSc degree in nephrology at UERJ, and his PhD degree in Surgery at UFRJ. He began his academic career in 1984, as Associated Professor of Urology of the UERJ Medical School.
Since his early professional life, stimulated by Prof. Aguinaga, he took charge of many positions in the Brazilian Society of Urology (SBU). The most recent are president of Rio de Janeiro Section, Treasurer, General Secretary, and now he is de President of the SBU.
His main areas of research are stone disease and voiding dysfunctions.
He was one of the precursors of urodynamic evaluation in Brazil, the firs in Rio de Janeiro, and created a center for evaluation of voiding disorders at Hospital Pedro Ernesto (UERJ) and at ABBR (Brazilian association for rehabilitation), where he had the opportunity of training many residents and fellows.
He is Corresponding Member of AUA since 1989.
