Dr. Petra Popovics is a K01 Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a Ph.D. in medical sciences at the University of St. Andrews, UK, completed her postdoctoral training in the Nobel Laurate Dr. Andrew V. Schally`s laboratory at the University of Miami, FL and in Magdalena Grabowska`s laboratory at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Popovics contributed to the development and testing of growth hormone-releasing hormone analogs for the treatment of various malignancies and chronic diseases. Her current work focuses on identifying inflammation-induced prostatic growth factors and determining their role in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dr. Popovics has received a 2-year Scholarship and the Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award from the Urology Care Foundation, which is the official foundation of the American Urological Association. Dr. Popovics has significant experience in the area of hormonal signaling and benign prostatic hyperplasia, inflammation and fibrosis.
