Dr. Vinata Lokeshwar is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, USA. She also has a joint appointment in the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology. The major research focus of the Lokeshwar laboratory, is on the theme “bench to bedside and back again”. The laboratory operates on the principle that unmet clinical needs are fulfilled through mechanistic research and collaborations between basic researchers and clinicians. The seminal scientific contributions of her laboratory include, discovery of novel molecular determinants of bladder, renal and prostate carcinomas for developing cancer diagnostic and prognostic tests, and for developing biomarker-driven chemoprevention and treatment strategies. Further, tumor heterogeneity influences molecular subtypes and their prognostic ability is currently subpar to pathology.
