James D. Brooks, MD is the Keith and Jan Hurlbut Professor, Vice-Chair and Chief of Urologic Oncology in the Department of Urology and former Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a urologic surgeon whose clinical practice focuses primarily on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. For more than 20 years he has used genetic and genomic approaches to identify candidate biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of urological malignancies. More recently, his research has expanded to bengin urological conditions including benign prostaatic hyperplasia and obstructive nephropathy. Dr. Brooks has served on national advisory panels, held leadership positions in a number of research consortia, leads several NIH and Department of Defense funded research projects and serves on the editorial board of several journals.
