Dr. John P. Lavelle is a Clinical Associate Professor (affiliated) of Urology at the Stanford University and Director of Neurourology, Urodynamics and Voiding Dysfunction at the Palo Alto Veteran Affairs Health Care System. His clinical practice specializes in neurourology at the SCI and Polytrauma units including the voiding dysfunction clinic. Dr. Lavelle research interests include patient outcomes, neurogenic bladder, overactive bladder, incontinence and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Originally from Ireland, Dr. Lavelle studied Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland graduating in 1984. He earned a postgraduate degree in Medical Science from the National University of Ireland in 1986, primarily in Anatomy. He completed his Fellowship in General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1989. In 1990, Dr. Lavelle moved to the United States. He was a Research Fellow at the University of Iowa from 1990-1993. He completed his Urology residency at the University of Pittsburgh in 1998 followed by an AFUD fellowship with Dr. Michael Chancellor.
