Peter A. Pinto, M.D. is a Tenured, Senior Principal Investigator, Senior Surgeon, Head of the Prostate Cancer Section and Fellowship Director in the Urologic Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He is nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in the field of prostate cancer and image guidance to improve active surveillance, focal therapy and robotic surgery. He holds multiple patents in the novel method and system of performing image guided biopsies and was the co-creator of the UroNav MRI-TRUS fusion prostate biopsy platform. Dr. Pinto has a robust clinical practice in the management of localized and locally advanced prostate cancer. His translational research interests include vaccine strategies and molecularly-targeted therapeutic approaches to modulate cancer cell growth and survival, imaging and targeted registration of genitourinary tumors to improve diagnosis and treatment, and the minimally invasive treatment of urologic malignancies, including laparoscopic/robotic surgery and focal therapy such as laser ablation, cryotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, and high intensity focused ultrasound.
