Reynaldo G. Gomez, MD, FACS is Chief of the Urology Service at Hospital del Trabajador in Santiago, Chile. He obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Catholic University of Chile Medical School in 1979. He performed residency training in General Surgery and in Urology at the same University and then moved to Hospital del Trabajador in 1984 where he started the Urology Service. He then performed a Fellowship in Trauma and Reconstructive Urology at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF) in 1990 -1991 with Prof. Jack McAninch.
Dr. Gómez is Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and member of several scientific societies including the AUA. He is a Past President of the Chilean Society of Urology and of the Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons Society (GURS). He also served several terms in the board of the Confederación Americana de Urologia (CAU) and he is the 2022 President of the Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU). He is the author of more than 100 peer reviewed international articles, has contributed with numerous book chapters and is the editor of 2 books. He is also a reviewer for a dozen of international journals.
His main areas of interest and research are trauma and genitourinary reconstructive urology, including urethral reconstruction, neurourology and neurogenic bladder. Since 2004 he leads training in urethral reconstruction in Latin America by giving annual live workshops.
Dr Gomez is fluent in English and Spanish.
