Palle Osther, M.D, Ph.D.
Osther is currently Professor and consultant urological surgeon at Department of Urology and Head of Research of Urological Research Center at Lillebaelt Hospital, University Hospital of Southern Denmark, Vejle, Denmark. His research interests focus on urolithiasis, upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma, urinary tract pain, uroradiology, prostate cancer and communication in health care. In his clinical practice he mainly deals with urinary stone disease and other upper urinary tract pathologies. He has been invited as guest surgeon for live surgery at several international urological meetings and invited as guest surgeon at several university hospitals worldwide. For 15 years he was chairman of the Scandinavian Cooperative Group for Urinary Stones and he took the initiative to the Scandinavian Course on Urinary Stone Disease. In the period 2009-2013 he was chairman of the EAU Section of Urolithiasis (EULIS), and he was president of the 2nd Meeting of EULIS in Copenhagen 2013. Prof. Osther was co-organizer of the Consultation on UTUC, Stockholm 2018, and the Consultation on Kidney Stones, Copenhagen 2019, under the aegis of Scandinavian Endourology Consultations (SEC) of which he is co-founder. He has received several scientific awards, and he is and has been principal supervisor for several PhD students. He was elected Principal PhD-supervisor of the Year in 2020 at SDU.
Prof. Osther is an Honorary Member of EAU Section of Urolithiasis (EULIS). He has been board member of the EAU Section Office, member of the Scientific Committees of Challenges in Endourology and Experts in Stone Disease. He chaired a sub-committee of the International Consultation on Stone Disease. Prof. Osther has been member of Editorial Boards of several peer-reviewed journals. From April 2020 he serves as Associate Editor of BJUI. Since 2018 Honorary Member of Swedish Urological Association.
