Dr. Timothy Byler earned his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School in 2008 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University in 2004. He went on to residency in General Surgery (2008-2010), followed by residency in Urology (2010-2014) at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Following completion of residency, I became an Assistant Professor of Urology ( 2014-2020) and was promoted to Associate Professor of Urology (2020-current) at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY.
Dr. Byler runs a busy general urology practice encompassing all aspects of urology but focusing mainly on nephrolithiasis and prostate cancer detection. Since 2016, he has led the MRI fusion prostate biopsy program and has completed over 1000 such biopsies. In the past year, we have converted to a completely transperineal program and routinly perform all aspects of prostate biopsy via this route. In both of these programs, he performs all such biopsies for a practice of over 20 urologists with many outside referrals. His research interests include nephrolithiasis, voiding dysfunction, and prostate cancer detection.
Dr. Byler is a member of American Urological Association (AUA), specifically the Northeastern Section (NSAUA), and Societe Internationale d’Urologie (SIU).
