Radiologist

"Being a radiologist, I want to help patients by using new imaging techniques, which can locate cancer, show its aggression, and how far it spreads."
"In this way, I want to help with personalized treatment, which leads to a better chance of cure and fewer side effects."
- I standardized prostate-MRI. Therefore, I created with my colleagues PI-RADS, which is now a world standard and has helped implement MRI in the guidelines. Use of prostate MRI can result in a 50% reduction of biopsies.
- I never gave up on Combidex-nano-MRI. Now it's back (Ferrotran-MRI). With this technique, very small (1.5 mm) lymph node metastases can be detected, which are negative on PSMA scans.
- I am the Imaging Editor of European Urology (IF > 21), which helps publish high-quality prostate MRI papers.
I have been MD since 1980 and had my PhD in 1990. I am Professor of Radiology and Chair of the Radboudumc Prostate MR Reference Center. This Center provides education and quality control in prostate MRI. I am (co) author of >300 peer-reviewed papers, > 36,000 quotes, with an h-factor of 94 (Google-scholar).

My aims:
1. Early detection of aggressive prostate cancer with MRI.
2. Try to introduce PSA-MRI Prostate Early Detection.
3. Localising 2 mm small nodal metastases with nano(Ferrotran) MRI.
4. Explore the potential of Artificial Intelligence to detect prostate cancer and nodal metastasis.
