David Canes, M.D. is Associate Professor of Urology, Tufts University School of Medicine, senior staff surgeon at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, MA, and Director of Robotic Surgery at Parkland Hospital in Derry, NH. Dr. Canes is a graduate of Yale University and received his medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. After completing his residency training at Lahey Hospital, he went on to complete a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery and endourology at Cleveland Clinic under the direction of Dr. Inderbir Gill and Dr. Mihir Desai.
Dr. Canes has over 50 peer reviewed published articles and over 10 textbook chapters, and is a reviewer for leading urology journals. He served as scientific co-chair for the 2016 Annual meeting of the New England Section of the AUA. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the spectrum of urologic malignancies with a predominant focus on robotic prostatectomy, as well as complex benign reconstruction of the upper and lower tract. His research interests include novel robotic surgical techniques,surgical quality improvement, cancer treatment trends and outcomes in large national administrative datasets, and active surveillance for prostate cancer. He formulated an implemented the prostate cancer active surveillance protocol for Lahey Health.
