Douglas Strand, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He finished his PhD in 2007 with David Rowley, PhD at Baylor College of Medicine studying the role of the microenvironment in prostate cancer progression. He finished his postdoc in 2013 under Simon Hayward, PhD at Vanderbilt University studying the metabolic regulation of prostate epithelial differentiation. In 2014, he was recruited by Dr. Claus Roehrborn to UT Southwestern where he began building a cellular atlas of the lower urinary tract in young healthy adults and aged symptomatic adults. He is funded by the NIDDK and is a project leader on an O'Brien Center that focuses on benign prostatic hyperplasia. He is an active member of the GenitoUrinary Development Molecular Anatomy Project (GUDMAP) and the Human BioMolecular Atlas Project (HuBMAP).
