Dr. Kim received his medical degree from the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine in Brazil, in 1989. He completed the trauma research fellowship with Dr. Ernest E. Moore. He completed the internship in general surgery and residency in urology at the University of Colorado Denver and Loyola University Medical Center (chair-Dr. Robert Flanigan). He also completed an Endourology/Laparoscopy fellowship at the John Hopkins Medical Institutions (Dr. Louis Kavoussi).
Dr. Kim has earned several awards including the AUA Presidential Citation in 2019 for contributions in Minimally Invasive Surgery and International relations (Society of Brazilian Urology), the Brazilian Presidential Juscelino Kubitschek Medal of honor, and honorary membership of the SBU, the prestigious Ernest E. Moore trauma award, the Paul Alan Wetter Award, the Brazilian Armed Forces Friendship Bridge Award, The Societa Italiana di Urologia International Guest Recognition, the Brazilian Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Friends Award, Denver Health Medical center physician of the year 2013, Professor Emeritus in Urology, ABC School of Medicine, Brazil and he is a proud member of the AUA Leadership Program Class of 2007.
Dr. Kim has been the AUA's HCL since 2008 when the AUA/SBU annual program began during the annual AUA meeting. He has served as Vice-Chair of Technology, Research and Development for the National urological Ultrasound Faculty (AUA), he serves in several committees including Quality Improvement and Science (patient safety) and he contributed to the core curriculum program. He has authored more than 150 published articles. He is the editor-in-chief since 2020of the AUA News in Portuguese, Associate Editor of the Patient Safety Journal in Surgery since 2015. He successfully funded his translational research in prostate and kidney cancers, patient safety, and health equity for minorities and vulnerable populations of patients. Dr. Kim is the secretary of the South Central Section (2019-2022).
