Professor M.Pilar Laguna qualified in medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), in 1979. Following completion of his training as urologists she joined the medical staff at hospital del Sagrado Corazon and later at Fundacio Puigvert in Barcelona. She was appointed chairperson at the Department of Urology of the Hospital Gral. La Mancha Centro in Alcazar de San Juan in 1995 and moved in 2000 to the Netherlands. In 2014 she was appointed Professor in Uro-Oncology in the AMC University of Amsterdam and later on at Istanbul Medipol University where she works currently.
She is the current chairperson of the EAU testicular Cancer guidelines panel and the chair of the Institutes and Scholarships office of the SIU. She has been holding the chair position in the Ablative Working Party of the EAU section of Uro-technology (ESUT). Her main interest is on Renal and Testicular cancer. She has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles in the field of urology, with special focus on minimally invasive therapies and Uro-oncology. She is co-editor of a book on Testicular cancer and of more than 20 book chapters. She belongs to the editorial board at large of European Urology and to the Urological Survey Section of The Journal of Urology
