Sarah Faris, MD is an associate professor of Urology at the University of Chicago. She went to Princeton University for undergraduate where she studied Art History and competed on the Women’s Varsity Swim Team winning multiple Ivy League championships and setting several school and conference records. She attended the University of Michigan Medical School for her medical education and Vanderbilt University for Urology residency. Dr. Faris completed a GURS fellowship at the University of Iowa before starting as assistant professor at the University of Chicago. Her focus on male and female reconstructive Urology requires a patient centered approach to discuss intimate and personal details with patients.
Since starting at the University of Chicago, she has striven to be a mentor, teacher and role model for both residents and medical students. This effort has been recognized and she became residency program director in July 2020.
Dr. Faris is leading the field of reconstructive Urology in Chicago where she is an active member of the Chicago Urological Society. She has given multiple lectures to Chicagoland Urologists and chaired the meeting on incontinence. Currently she is about to embark on a national collaborative research network to perform a randomized controlled study on the role of antibiotics after the placement of prosthetics. She is an AUA Core Curriculum Senior Editor after serving as the section editor for the upper and lower tract trauma sections.
She is committed to improving patient care and outcomes. Dr. Faris is the Ambulatory Medical Director for Urology and has established a new interdepartmental Women’s Surgeons Committee for the University of Chicago focusing on career development and mentorship. She is a prior member of the Surgery Quality and Patient Safety Improvement Committee where she has developed new guideline based protocols for operative antibiotic regimens.
