Dr. Jeffrey Holzbeierlein is the William L. Valk Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology for The University of Kansas Health System. Raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, he received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma and completed his internship and residency at Vanderbilt University. He joined the faculty at the University of Kansas after completing his fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York.
Dr. Holzbeierlein is on the Executive Board of Directors and a past-President of the South-Central Section of the American Urological Association. He is the President for the SUO, he is on the American Board of Urology Oncology Knowledge Assessment Examination Committee, and is a past Assistant Editor for the Journal of Urology. He is currently a member of the Oral Boards Committee for the American Board of Urology and has served on numerous AUA Committees and completed the AUA Leadership Program. He is on the Steering Committee for GU ASCO. Dr. Holzbeierlein is also the past Chair and founding member of the Young Urologic Oncologists Section of the Society of Urologic Oncology. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Cancer, and Urologic Oncology.
Dr. Holzbeierlein has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has numerous abstracts in journals and textbooks, and has been an annual lecturer for the AUA. He has intramural and extramural grant support as a co-investigator on an R01, and is the principal investigator on a SWOG trial.
Dr. Holzbeierlein specializes in the treatment of genitourinary malignancies including bladder, kidney, testicular, and penile cancers. His research interest includes the Hsp90 inhibitors in bladder cancer and clinically decreasing the morbidity associated with cystectomy. He lives in Kansas City with his wife Jill, and their 4 children.
