Dr. Bal Lokeshwar obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangaluru, India, and performed Post-Doctoral research at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. He was a faculty member in the Department of Urology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami Florida, from 1989-2015; he retired from the University of Miami as the co-Director of Urology Research and tenured full Professor. Dr. Lokeshwar. He is a Professor of Medicine, Surgery, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Georgia Cancer Center, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University (formerly Georgia Regents University) in Augusta GA. He holds the Dr. J. Harold Harrison MD distinguished University Chair in basic sciences and Heath Research Scientist at the Charles Norwood VA Medical Center at Augusta. Dr. Lokeshwar joined the Augusta University in September 2015 at the current rank. Dr. Lokeshwar’s research work is on genitourinary cancers, especially prostate and bladder cancers. He directs research in basic biomedical sciences on the role of inflammation, chemokine & receptors, and cancer chemoprevention. He is currently an Assistant Editor of Urologic Oncology (Elsevier Publishers) and the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Experimental Pharmacology (Dove Press & J. Wiley Publishers). Dr. Lokeshwar's research is funded by the Medical College of Georgia’s Harrison Foundation, National Institutes of Health and the VA Merit research awards.
