Christopher P. Evans, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Evans is professor and chair of the Department of Urologic Surgery at University of California, Davis School of Medicine and a member of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Evans attended Dartmouth Medical School on a Health Professional Services Program scholarship and served on active duty in the United States Army, including two years as Chief of Experimental Surgery at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Dr. Evans completed surgery and urology training at the University of California, San Francisco where he was also a National Kidney Foundation Scholar. He completed fellowship training in urologic oncology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He came to UC Davis in 1997 and he was also Director of Urology Research. In 2006, Dr. Evans became Department Chairman. Dr. Evans’ practice is dedicated to the management of patients with urologic malignancies.
Dr. Evans’ research laboratory focuses on prostate cancer; specifically, mechanisms signaling the androgen receptor to activate prostate cancer growth and progression following castration. His laboratory has developed models to study this and identified novel mechanisms that activate the androgen receptor. His laboratory work tested new agents and brought them from bench studies to animal models to clinical trials.
Dr. Evans is immediate past President of the Society of Urologic Oncology and a past Chair of the ASCO GU Steering Committee. He is an elected member of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. His research laboratory has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer, New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Cancer Society. He has published over 210 peer-reviewed articles.
