Samir S. Taneja, M.D. is the James M. Neissa and Janet Riha Neissa Professor of Urologic Oncology; Professor of Urology, Radiology, and Biomedical Engineering; GU Oncology Program Leader, Perlmutter Cancer Center; and Director, Division of Urologic Oncology in the Department of Urology at NYU Langone Health. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis, evaluation, and surgical treatment of prostate cancer. He has been an innovator in the clinical application of pre-biopsy prostate MRI and techniques of MRI-targeted biopsy using MRI to ultrasound co-registration (fusion) techniques. He is also widely recognized as one of the most experienced innovators in the emerging field of prostate cancer focal therapy, having led and completed both single and multi-center clinical trials at NYULMC, and utilizing a wide spectrum of focal therapy energy sources including cryosurgery, HIFU, bipolar RFA, laser, and vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy. He has vast experience with the surgical management of prostate cancer using robotic and open techniques. Dr. Taneja is nationally renowned as a leader in the treatment and research of urologic cancers. He has served on the Society of Urologic Oncology Executive Committee, American Board of Urology Exam Committee, the SUO Oncology Knowledge Assessment Test Committee, and is past Secretary General and President of the Urologic Research Society. Dr. Taneja has authored over 250 articles, 30 book chapters, 5 monographs, and 3 textbooks on urologic cancer or surgery, including the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions of Taneja’s Complications of Urologic Surgery: Diagnosis, Prevention, and Management. He is on the editorial board of several journals, previous Consulting Editor of the Urologic Clinics of North America, and is the Urology Surveys prostate cancer contributor for the Journal of Urology. He regularly lectures across the world, having been an invited lecturer in 5 continents, and throughout the United States.
