Benjamin K. Canales MD, MPH graduated in 2001 from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and then completed Urology Residency and a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He has been an AUA Foundation Research Scholar (2007) and a Urology Care Foundation "Rising Star in Urology" recipient (2016) for his basic science efforts in the pathogenesis of stone disease. Now a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Florida, he directs the metabolic kidney stone clinic at the North Florida/South Georgia VA Hospital and maintains a high volume surgical practice of renal cancer and stone disease. He has authored a number of book chapters and peer-reviewed manuscripts on the topic of surgical and medical management of stone disease and continues to perform funded benchtop research, translating basic science discoveries into practical uses for kidney stone formers.
