067IC - Male Infertility Guidelines: A Practical Guide for the Practicing Urologist to Enhance Evaluation and Treatment of the Man in an Infertile Relationship based on Published Evidence

A joint male infertility guideline was developed by the AUA as well as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine using evaluation of published literature with the level of evidence evaluated based on standard ECRI criteria used in other AUA guidelines. The guideline covers both evaluation and management of male infertility with recognition of the importance of coordinating male and female evaluation in a couple. The course brings together both the evidence base for recommendations as well as current common practice, emphasizing the discrepancy between practice and high quality evidence, as well as needed studies and evidence needed to address the gaps in knowledge that exist in medical care for infertile couples.

The course will be interactive in nature with presentation of guideline statements, review of the evidence supporting the statements as well as polling of the audience for management of patient care practices in a PICO format (Patient, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome) to evaluate why current practices differ from evidence based recommendations. Both trainees and experienced practitioners will benefit from a discussion of the shortfall in data and clinical trials needed to improve the data basis to inform improved male infertility patient care.
