Richard Gelderman's experience with total solar eclipses is that they are the most profound natural event. Although he has avoided the urge to become a global eclipse chaser, he will never turn down an opportunity to watch an eclipse plunge midday brightness into darkness. Richard had to be ordered to participate in a 2012 meeting organized to prepare for the 21 August 2017 total solar eclipse. By 2014, he realized that five years were not enough time to get everything done for his community to be ready for all that would come with totality. He offers help to anyone finding themself involve with planning events around a total solar eclipse.
