Dr. Karyn Onyeneho is Vice Chair of the American Society of Nutrition’s Minority and Diversity Affairs Committee (MDAC) and will serve as its incoming Chair in Summer 2022. In her role as Vice Chair, Dr. Onyeneho co-leads the committee in fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility at every intersection of the ASN, including ensuring strategic planning efforts promote opportunities for research advancement and growth in professional practices and enhancing the participation and engagement of minority and diverse student, scientists, and professionals in the activities of the ASN. Dr. Onyeneho is passionate about supporting, promoting, and increasing the representation of diverse groups, particularly minority members within ASN and biomedical research altogether, which are goals of the MDAC. Dr. Onyeneho holds a PhD in Experimental Nutrition, with an emphasis in nutrigenetics and Type 2 Diabetes, from Howard University; a Master of Science Degree in Health Informatics from George Mason University; and a Bachelor of Science Degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Howard University. Her doctoral research focused on investigating the association of nutritional phenotypic traits and candidate genes and their causal variants that confer hereditary disease risk for Type 2 Diabetes in adults of African ancestry.
