Research Assistant
University at Buffalo
Buffalo, New York, United States
My name is Divya Choudhary, and I am a second-year student pursuing my Ph.D. in Nutrition Science at the University of Buffalo. I have a passion for research and a long-term goal of pursuing an academic research position that ultimately can improve public health through advanced studies in nutrition science.
I have always been extensively involved in research along with my academics both in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Science. My master's research involved understanding how early-life exposure to whole foods (eggs) could influence body composition and obesity risk in childhood. I have two papers under review that aims to examine the association of egg introduction with obesity and egg allergy in early childhood, middle childhood, and early adolescence. I have been awarded the Annette Rachman Scholarship (twice) and the Matthew J Morris award for my excellent academic performance and for helping others by volunteering for research work.
Other than my master's research work I have contributed to multiple research projects involving animal study (on rats) and human research ( secondary data analysis). I have recently published a paper as a co-author in Lipids in Health and Disease on the topic "Associations of maternal lipoprotein particle distribution in mid-pregnancy with birth outcomes: a pilot study." I have recently been awarded an Honorable Mention for my submission to the Office of Global Health Initiatives’ 2022 Global Health Poster Competition.
As I continue to work as a Research Associate, I am gaining valuable experience and knowledge during my Ph.D. My Ph.D. dissertation mainly focuses on the role of dietary pulses (such as dry beans and lentils) in influencing childhood health, specifically focusing on obesity and cardiometabolic health.
Other than my well-balanced academics I am an active member and hold the position of Board member in the Exercise and Nutrition Science Club (2021-present). Earlier, I was holding the post of Treasurer for GISA ( Graduate Indian Student Association) to oversee the financial matters of the organization (2020-2021).
