Dr. Melissa Young is an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University who is a leader in the areas of maternal and child nutrition, breastfeeding, anemia, micronutrient deficiencies and program implementation and evaluation. She has training in human nutrition, epidemiology, community nutrition and applied economics. Dr. Young’s experience ranges across the spectrum from biochemical/clinical nutrition to implementation research and design and evaluation of public health nutrition programs and policies. She is currently working on projects in India, Vietnam, Malawi, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Cambodia. The central theme that ties Dr. Young’s research together is a focus on nutrition during the first 1000 days, a critical window of opportunity to improve child health for lifetime. Dr. Young’s goal is to help train the next generation of nutrition professionals and public health experts and to provide effective evidence-based guidance to improve global maternal and child nutrition programs and policies.
