Ian Macdonald retired as Professor of Metabolic Physiology from the University of Nottingham in August 2020 and took up the role of Scientific Director of the Nestle Institute of Health Sciences at Nestle Research. He is also Professor Emeritus in Nottingham.
He has published over 400 peer-reviewed original research papers, together with reviews, book chapters and invited contributions. He was President of the UK Nutrition Society from 2007-2010 and was Treasurer of FENS and of the World Obesity Federation, and was joint Editor of the International Journal of Obesity from 2000 to 2021. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, a Registered Nutritionist and an Honorary Fellow of the Association for Nutrition, a Fellow of the Physiological Society, and a Fellow of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences.
