Julie Obbagy is a Nutritionist with USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, where she has nearly 10 years of experience with reviewing evidence to support the development and implementation of dietary guidance to help improve the health and well-being of Americans.
Her primary role involves conducting systematic reviews as part of the Nutrition Evidence Systematic Review (NESR) team. She will be leading the work of NESR as it support the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s review of science. She has also provided support to the 2010, 2015, and 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committees, and has extensive experience with developing the systematic review methodology used by NESR.
Previously, Dr. Obbagy served as a Nutritionist in USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) School Nutrition Programs Branch of the North East Regional Office (NERO) in Boston. In that role, she provided oversight and technical assistance to states and school districts in the North East region on issues related to implementation of USDA’s child nutrition programs, including the school lunch and breakfast programs and related provisions of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.
Dr. Obbagy received Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and American History from Brown University. She earned a Doctorate in Nutritional Sciences from the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Obbagy is also a Registered Dietitian, having completed her Dietetic Internship at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD.
