Kingsley Kalu is a final year PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He grew up in Nigeria, West Africa, and loved to teach and conduct research. This passion led him to pursue a Ph.D. in Food Science (Nutrition) on completion his MPH (Human Nutrition). He started his early career as a lecturer in Food Technology in a tertiary Institution in Nigeria-West Africa, a position he held before receiving a highly competitive scholarship for his PhD in 2018. His goal is to be established in the academic space and conduct quality research in Public Health, Nutrition, and Food Science. In the last three years, his research has been on understanding the role of lutein and zeaxanthin in eye health. Preliminary findings of his study were presented in the last two ASN conferences, including the recently concluded International Vitamins Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. In addition, he is currently conducting the Phase II bioavailability study, a clinical trial that requires the intake of dietary supplements (lutein, zeaxanthin, and DHA+EPA) to understand better the role of DHA + EPA in lutein and zeaxanthin bioavailability over a defined period.
